Jory and I tried our hardest to replicate the delicious jalapeno margaritas at Z Tejas in Tempe, AZ.

We decided we could knock it off with some fresh jalapeno, cucumber, simple syrup and lime juice blended with tequila…

Looks good, but the flavor was a little off.  We are already prepping for the next attempt.  This time, we are going to use 1/4 cucumber and 1 jalapeno.  Maybe straining it would help too.  Jamison said, “It tastes green… like vegetables.”  Yum, salad plus tequila in a glass… Is that diet friendly?  LOL.

Models, Designers and Tastemakers: My Tribute to Black History

So, in the spirit of Black History Month, I wanted to a do a little something.  So I decided to profile some of the most important fashion designers, models and tastemakers in the Black community:

Famous for well tailored clothing, Willi Smith’s clothing line was worth $25 million when he passed away in 1987.  I still buy it to this day…  BTW, he designed the costumes for “School Daze” (a Spike Lee joint):

And on to the models on the 70′s, 80′s, and 90′s:

Beverly Johnson – scored the first cover of Glamour mag by a Black woman, now she sells lace front wigs in the back of magazines

Beverly Peele – I know you remember her… I got “Nuttin but Love” for you, baby.  (Hello – the Heavy D video!)

Veronica Webb – so fly and last seen as Tim Gunn’s model friend on “Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style”

And my favorite tastemakers:

Andre Leon Talley – besties with Anna Wintour, fashion models and J.Hud alike; he’s “big, beautiful and lovin’ it” (quote courtesy of my favorite bad movie, “Two Can Play That Game)

Thelma Golden – Museum curator extraordinaire, she has built a legacy at the Whitney and at the Studio Museum is Harlem.  And she is married to London-based Fashion Designer, Duro Olowu:

So, I have wanted the smaller version of this bag forever:

The Giant City Bag in Apple is so my desire.  And it’s on sale at Beyond the Rack for $1299.00.  Wanna blow a LOT of paycheck?

Girl Crush Wednesday: Rosario Dawson

I totally dig this woman – even if I’m jealous she dated the real-life Smith Jared aka Jason Lewis.  She is a true New Yorker; she loves fashion; and she is a kick-ass actress.  Did I mention she’s smoking hot?  Here is to my girl crush of the week, Rosario Dawson:

Isn’t she just gorgeous?  You don’t usually get a KILLER body and beautiful face anymore.  Rosario hit the jackpot!  Love you girl.

Wearing my Zara feather necklace I bought in the fall

Amy in a vintage dress, scored at Goodwill

Jeffrey, wearing fitted denim blazer (look for a future post on Jeffrey’s interior design and architecture firm based in Atlanta)

Andrew in fedora and striped sweater.  Aren’t his dimples the cutest thing?

Just Because I’m on a Low Sugar/Low Carb Diet…

…doesn’t mean that you need to be.  While I feel very good about Jorge Cruise’s new diet book, The Belly Fat Cure Diet, I know that not everyone is down for a diet – especially not in the cold ass winter.  So, I had these amazing chocolates with Amy on the day of our last shopping adventure – Lindt Fioretto.

These candies are like Ferraro Rocher AND Lindt Lindor Truffles combined.  Yes!  It’s true!!!  Can you imagine that?  Go and try some out – unless you too are on a low sugar/low carb diet to prepare for summer.

If you are looking for a new way to eat, consider this diet.  The basic principles are to eat less than 15g of sugar each day (to keep your insulin in balance) and a full six servings of grains (basically up to 120g carbs) each day.  Jorge says you’ll lose 4-9 pounds a week eating regular, delicious food, but I have not seen a loss that dramatic (BUT my husband lost 7 pounds in 11 days – damn men.)  Send me a comment if you’d like more information.

In Honor of My Party Hosts…

I’ve been holding on to this image for a long time, not really certain what to do with it… but I finally know how to use it.  My friend Amy AKA Lumberjack lives in a community where everyone is friendly and they all hang out together on a regular basis.  Last night, Amy – along with her fabulous friends Bob and Andrew – had a party for no reason.

Now, what you don’t know about Bob and Andrew is they aren’t “run of the mill” fabulous, they are a VERY SPECIAL version of FABULOUS.  They love Art Deco more than me (which is hard to believe).  They have the most gorgeous marble pedestal sink you’ve ever seen.  Their covered patio is like a private fine dining institution.  And they are a PERFECT MATCH all while being out of control fabulous. :)

So, this drawing of two other fabulous men who love beautiful things makes me think of them:

Stay tuned for a “What They’re Rocking” post with some ensembles featured at the party last night…
