Blow Your Paycheck Friday: Dom Perignon by the Case

Tomorrow my youngest sister, Brittany graduates from Creighton University in Omaha, NE.  For me it’s very strange.  I remember the day she was born.  I remember her kindergarten graduation.  I can literally see her singing, “I am a promise, I am a possibility, I am a promise with a capital ‘P’, I am a great big bundle of potentiality…” And now she is a very grown-up 21 year old woman, beginning her own adult life.  So we’ve been asking her for months how she wanted to celebrate her graduation.  I offered to take her out for dinner; she said “What is graduation dinner?”  My mom offered up a party at a bar; she wasn’t interested.  My other sister offered a simple little BBQ and she wasn’t that interested in publiczing it because she didn’t want to “make it a big deal.”  OK whatevs…

Well, last night after attending a graduate event, she stopped by my mom’s asking for all of the BBQ details – the invite list, the menu, the time and left a little request:  She’d like to toast with a bottle of Dom Perignon.  Well, even though the event is still seemingly low-key, the highbrow champagne seems to elevate it beyond the case of Trader Joe’s blanc de blancs I was planning to buy to accompany the BBQ meats and classic side dishes.  So this week, if only I could, I’d splurge for an entire case of vintage Dom Perignon just to let her know how proud I am of her accomplishment.

But with less than a week’s notice, I can’t really rearrange my finances to drop $2,515.08 just on bubby.  But if you can afford it for your graduates, get it at Morrell & Company Wines.
