This post was inspired by a discussion with a colleague in our staff meeting yesterday. We were discussing dry shampoo, the movie, “Good Hair” and then the subject of makeup came up. We instantly had the same thought, “I’d die if I lost my makeup bag!” So I decided to both review my every day beauty favorites and the total replacement cost:
Nars Bronzer in Casino $32 – this gives the most amazing tan, shimmery bronze. I use it all over my face in summer!
MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation in C7 $26 – This matches my skin tone and really evens me out when I use a powder brush to apply. Never use the sponge unless you want to look really “done” – which I NEVER do…
YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch in Light Peach $40 – This is the newest “must have” item I discovered at Saks while shopping the day-after-Christmas sale. I was surely looking exhausted due to insomnia and a lovely gal said, “Do you mind if I try something?” She sat me down and in less than 1 minute, I looked totally refreshed. If you don’t know, you better add this one stat!
MAC Powder Blush in Ambering Rose $18.50 – This is a fantastic sheer rose color. I love the flush it leaves on my skin. I’ve been die-hard with this since discovering it at the MAC store in downtown Toronto in summer 2004.
NARS Blush in Taj Mahal $26 – This shimmery orange is the BEST blush I’ve ever used. It looks over the top in the package but it is the most natural flush ever for me.
L’Oreal Luminous Mascara in Carbon Black $8 – This is so similar to Lancome Definicils that I stopped using it and dedicated myself to this. I stock up when they are on sale BOGO at Ulta.
Benefit Brow Zings in Light $30 – This allows you to really amplify every eyebrow when you have naturally sparse ones like me. This is the only color that looks natural on me!
Benefit Creaseless Cream Eye Shadow in Marry Up $19 – This was a special color that isn’t sold any more but I love it. It’s gorgeous yet subtle depending on how many layers you put on.
Benefit Gilded Eyeliner/Highlighter $20 – I heart this color and the ease of use for the gold dot at the corner of your eye. I think it’s been discontinued, so you know I had to go find one on eBay to keep on deck.
Kiehl’s Lip Gloss in Golden Berry $14.50 – This color is very flattering and the texture is not sticky, which is very refreshing for a gloss. I must admit the applicator sucks but clearly a lip brush works just fine!
C.O. Bigelow Rose Salve $5.50 – I use this for everything. I got like 40 of them on clearance for 75% off right before they changed the packaging (thanks Reed) and I’ve still got a LOT of them cuz this container lasts forever. I keep one everywhere – next to the bed, in my purse, in my car, etc.
Total = $239.50
BTW, this is my only my day-to-day stuff – not the insane collection of items I NEVER ever use… So sad. I also need to re-up on some Chanel Glossimer in Unity ($27.) I love this color and texture:
