Girl Crush Wednesday: Janet Jackson

I have loved Janet Jackson since I was a little girl.  I know every single song she has ever made, and I am fully in love with every ounce of her.  Last night I saw her live for the first time ever at the fabulous Fox Theater in Atlanta.  And it really changed my life:

What can make any day better than ending it with Janet?  Even if I was up past my bedtime.  So worth it.

I managed to rack up at the ideeli Red Sale this weekend.  There were so many things that I would have bought but were sold out; however I still managed to score a few Calvin Klein dresses:

Grey square neck day dress, perfect for work – and a replacement for a grey and black plaid dress I had to (reluctantly) get rid of

This black satin sweetheart strapless dress to replace a beloved (and very similar CK) one that is too big was donated to Goodwill

The same sweetheart strapless dress in gunmetal cuz you know how I roll

All of this was a mere $100 plus shipping and handling!  I love the Red sale.  If you are not a member of ideeli, feel free to join using this link.

Farewell to Fabulosity: R.I.P. Elizabeth Taylor

I grew up in the 80’s, which basically means I had no idea what the fuss was over Liz Taylor.  She was overweight and frankly a bit of a joke.  But once I learned the truth about her (wait, she was way more than the White Diamonds lady), I became enamored with her.

Fabulous enough to be married 8 times – twice to the same guy?  Hers is among the most fab jewel collections in the world?  Besties with Michael Jackson?  A total hottie back in the day?  How foolish I was to ever be unaware.  I was thinking this as I read the story of Kim Kardashian as Cleopatra in the March issue of Bazaar magazine.

She certainly was fabulous, and the world will never be the same without her.

Super Adorable Springtime Dresses at H&M

While I went shopping desperately seeking the boxy coral blazer at H&M (What was I thinking?  Boxy is the OPPOSITE of nippy.  So not cute on me), I found even more than I expected:

Chambray sweetheart strapless dress (with pockets) – $34.95

Red sweetheart strapless column dress – $34.95 (very similar to the cute MNG by Mango one in those JCPenney commercials but for HALF price)

Navy and white striped tee – $5.95, yes I am going to buy LOTS of striped things while they are trendy this season.  Not for the trend but for my personal style element of yacht wear.

And I got all this for $80.40.  I LOVE H&M so much.  I am so happy to be getting my wardrobe back in business because an empty closet makes me very, very sad.

What I’m Rocking: Heathered Gray Spring Day

I’ve had this dress since Christmas, but I am just now getting to wear it.  I really love the shaping.  You KNOW it was a TJ Maxx find:

Grey and black fitted sheath dress:  TJ Maxx – I love the shaping of this dress.  I got it during my Omaha shopping spree with my sister Brittany.

Patent slingbacks with silver trim:  Nine West – I still have them, and I still love them.  And I still wish I could find another pair.

Don’t you just love the blooming flowers and crazy totem pole behind me?

Nashville Rocks!

I’ve only been to Nashville once before last week, but who knew what I was missing!!!!  On Thursday, Elizabeth and I headed there to interview potential interns at Vanderbilt University.

I rather enjoyed my shopping trip to Posh, scooping up pewter high-top PF Flyers for Jamison and a cute black & gold cocktail dress. (Dress not pictured but I promise to photograph soon.  It is currently buried in the guest room closet with my small collection of other cocktail dresses and evening gowns.  And since we are having hardwood floors installed on Saturday, we had to move a lot of stuff upstairs.)

We also perused the amazing interior designed store, retropolitan.

This capiz shell chandelier was so freaking cool, but I was kinda freaked out about the flowers.  I KNOW Jamison would not really be on board for that.

Isn’t this aluminum table and bronze chair set awesome?  Elizabeth loved it!

Silver croc ottoman?  Hellz yeah!

Loved the aluminum cutout stools

I DIED for this super awesome coconut mirror.  It was even on sale 20% off, but the scale was a little small for where I’d like it to go – over the dining room buffet.  Leaving it there really killed me, but it was the right thing to do.  If I keep thinking about it, I do know that they ship!

We dined at two really cool restaurants – Rumors East (a wine bar with an awesome patio) and Whiskey Kitchen (cool bar/restaurant specializing in assorted whiskeys).

Check out the shrimp and grits with pesto at Rumors East

Triple dip at Whiskey Kitchen

I loved the cool neighborhoods, the great shopping, (very cool) bars all over the place, Music Row…  Nashville may deserve a weekend trip some time soon.  I am certain Jamison will love it.

After my recent trip to Nashville (will blog soon but WordPress was down last night), I wanted to profile a country singer.  Shania Twain is among my old school favorites, and I LOVE her songs.

After visiting the most awesome furniture store in Nashville (retropolitan), I needed some online window shopping to continue to seek inspiration:

Whiskey stones – I’ve been dying for some of these for a while, and $21.95 is a surprising great deal

Everglades coasters – I love all sexy white things and these totally rock, but $19.95 is quite the splurge for me on coasters

Providence decanter – This will be super sexy for our bar in the dining room and perfect for my country-club-meets-Alice-plays-croquet-with-the-Queen-of-Hearts birthday party in May.  The $19.95 price tag is not too crazy either

Venezia Pavilion – This would make my birthday party the SICKEST ever, but I will likely not splurge on it for $599.00

Casablanca Lanterns – I am also in love with the turquoise lanterns, especially the large-scale one

Blow Your Paycheck Friday: Valentino Rose Detail Jersey Suit

Lately, I’ve been really into wearing suits.  The formality of it, the ease of it… looking all put together without much fuss.  And if I could dream up a perfect suit, this would be pretty darn close with its floral applique:

Unfortunately, I cannot quite afford the roughly $3200 price tag at Saks.  But maybe you can…
