I don’t feel like I need to say much about Marilyn Monroe, so here she is.  I just love her pinup beauty:

She makes me want to wear white clothing and red lipstick every day.

Beach Weekend on Tybee Island

I spent a wonderfully entertaining weekend in Tybee Island, GA celebrating Jory’s bachelor party.  We started off early on Friday morning with breakfast of Chick-fil-a and arrived safely (and starved) in Savannah after nearly being mowed over my a biker gang from Miami.

We had a lovely lunch at Tapas by Anna in Savannah City Market.  The seafood au gratin and seafood pizza, the staff was friendly and the prices were very affordable.  We spent some time shopping on Broughton at Marc by Marc Jacobs, Urban Outfitters and Banana Republic.

I scored this awesome silver Marc by Marc Jacobs tote for only $35:

And I really, really wanted these yellow lace-up wellies and black riding-style wellies at Urban Outfitters for $38 each, but I decided to hold off on them since it was a sweltering 100 degrees on the streets of Savannah:

Next, we headed to Publix to gather a few items for low country boil and beach supplies.  We had such a tasty dinner, and the local fresh seafood (yum – fresh scallops) was off the charts.  A seafood shop that smelled not at all fishy? AMAZING!!!  Nothing like the funky fish market I went to with my Nanny growing up!

Saturday was all about the beach (I was the “put on more sunscreen” and “get under the umbrella” Nazi)…

(Me and Rita)

(Andrea and Jory)

and cocktail hour at Casimirs lounge (the black walls have inspired a great idea for our dining room but the clown art was creepy and the bartenders were snooty)…

and dinner at 700 Drayton at the Mansion on Forsyth Park.

We had cocktails at Rocks on the roof of the Bohemian Hotel.  Just wait for the “What They’re Rocking” post from Saturday night.  Coming up!

So guys, I am heading away for a beach weekend to celebrate Jory’s bachelor party:

That is my old “Neat Sheet” at the bottom of the pile.  I was SO obsessed with that thing a few years ago – great for sand and surf!

Enjoy your weekend!  I’ll be back with pics of our fun.

Blow Your Paycheck Friday: Prada Leopard Printed Sandals

You already know how I feen for leopard print pony hair shoes.  It is an uncontrollable problem/lust/etc.  When I saw these Pradas, I literally almost passed out!  I NEED them in my life:

At $990, they are quite the splurge.  But they may even be a comfy 6 inch shoe?

You can get these at Saks.

DIY: Kitchen Chair Re-Do

So, I’ve had my kitchen table & chairs for almost 5 years.  And I know “they” say that microfiber is great at holding up against wear and tear but our cushions have been looking tired for a WHILE now.

I came up with the idea of vinyl (wipe and go – hello) a few months ago.  Jamison and I ordered some swatches of ostrich and croc, and finally settled on shiny white croc vinyl.  So, then it was time to do my first full-on cushion reupholstery job:

1.  Remove the fabric and foam cushions

(see how dingy the fabric looked?)

(two yards each of high density foam and white croc vinyl)

2.  Prepare the foam and fabric

3.  Adhere the foam to the base of the chair

4. Staple the vinyl to the base of the chair

Voila!  My new fabulous kitchen chairs:

The lack of stretch in the vinyl meant that I had to fold creases at the edges, but I am totally OK with it.  I love the look of the shiny white croc although I’m still getting used to the feeling of it on my legs- sweaty thighs.  No bueno 😦

Girl Crush Wednesday: Reese Witherspoon

I am not usually really into “the girl next door” but I thought Reese Witherspoon was worthy of a little tribute.

In “Cruel Intentions” as a sweet Southern girl

With “McDreamy” in “Sweet Home Alabama”

Looking gorgeous on the red carpet – with two totally different looks

Strolling with Ava and Deacon

I hope you find love again one day, Reese.  But please – take your time.  Prince Charming will come!

My Shopping Victory: Flat Fringe Sandals

So, I will admit that I’ve been stalking TJ Maxx for these sandals for months now.  But they NEVER have them in my size.  Last night, while running through the last of my gift card, I found these adorable (and I hope comfortable) shoes in size 8 for $19.99:

The black suede is kind of edgy and the fringe reminds me of my favorite Jeffrey Campbell Kimi heels.  But these are SO much more practical!  Perfect for my trip to Tybee Island this weekend.

What I’m Rocking: Purple Barney (Not a Dinosaur)

So, you know my new clothes were “burning a hole in my closet.”  So for Father’s Day, I wore my new Barney’s Co-op dress:

Purple cotton dress:  Barney’s Co-op by way of Filene’s Basement

Vintage burgundy eelskin clutch:  thrifted, likely at Goodwill

Peep toe platform Penny Loves Kenny pumps:  DSW for Amy’s birthday

Rhinestone bracelet:  Target (bought for my wedding)

Amethyst engagement ring

Silver square hoops:  NY & Company

I sat around, chilling with my father-in-law and family, drinking wine and beer and eating pot roast & mac n’ cheese, and watching my father-in-law do scratch off lottery tickets.

My Shopping Victory: Boston Trip

So after my “Sustainable LEAN Culture” class wrapped up on Wednesday evening, I headed to Back Bay for some shopping at Filene’s Basement.  I still could NOT believe the original Downtown Crossing location has been a giant hole in the ground for nearly 3 years, but I made due with the Boylston Street location.  And here is what I found:

Red portrait collar London Times dress – I scored this dress for only $29.99.  I love the Jackie O look, and ironically I have another dress that is fairly similar.

Purple cotton Barney’s Coop dress – I love the shape and color of this dress.  And the cotton is SO soft.  And everything in the Vault was 60% off.  So it was $11.99!!!

Black & grey cocktail dress – I love the fun quality of this $39.99 dress.  I mean, it literally made me dance in the dressing room.  What more can I say?  I look forward to having an opportunity to wear this for a great occasion.

Black & grey Liz Claiborne plaid pencil skirt – I love, love, love pencil skirts.  The vintage look, the sex appeal, the practicality… what more could I possibly want in a piece?  (A piece that was on clearance for less than $17!)  And this one is inspired by Jory’s favorite colors – black and grey 🙂

Gold & lucite necklace – It was so reminiscent of Prada and it was 75% off.  So there was no question whether I’d get it!

I exited Filene’s on Newbury St, so I headed to Marc Jacobs for a quick spin.  I did get a couple of things: an adorable grey Lil Lower lunch bag (I had to get a little present for Jamison) and red heart compact (to replace the gold one I bought in SoHo in 2007.)  I almost got this gold Marc by Marc Jacobs purse, but I decided to hold off on it:

At H&M there was a sale going on.  And everyone knows that H&M locations in “real” cities have better clothes than the random ones in shopping malls in the middle of America.  And my guess was correct.  I racked up!

Navy and white polka dot dress – I’d been spying this dress in Atlanta but there was only one size 4.  Hooray for me I was able to get it.  I kinda DIE for polka dots and this shape is very flattering for me.

Orange empire waist tank dress – I am trying to step up my pool cover collection.  (Amy has like 20!)  I just need a few simple things I can lounge in for summertime and this works just fine for me!

Striped black & white drapey top – I’ve been wanting it for a while, and it’s only $5 so I just got it.  It may be a pool cover or it was a cool tunic… who knows.

Black and white jersey striped skirt – You know how I love stripes, and this was an easy choice.  The fit is also very flattering, and it’s SUPER comfy!

White and navy striped bubble hem minidress – My love for all things nautical is well documented.  And this dress is so cute.  It can go casual or dressy – for less than $20.  I KNOW I’ll be wearing it soon, like maybe tomorrow!!!!!!!

Metal bangles – I like the rock n’ roll Rihanna-esque quality of the set of bangles I got for $6 (not pictured.)

Yet another striped puffy-sleeve top – They are still $9.95, so I decided to get the navy & white striped top to go along with the rest of the wardrobe of colors.

And… after scoring all these lost cost goods for less than $220, I was exhausted; my feet hurt; and I was hungry.  I’d already tried to ask the guy at H&M about restaurants but he pointed me toward Asian (never my favorite) so I decided to let the universe guide me to a great spot – that was close.  And boy, did I score…

I saw the restaurant Papa Razzi Trattoria from the street, and the menu sounded great.  Inside was dark & moody, and I took my place at the bar after my parcels were whisked away in the valet closet.  I enjoyed a delicious martini and veal scallopini with a side of gnocchi as well as some interesting conversations with the locals and the great bartenders Amy & Brian.

Boston was very, very good to me.  I should go back some time soon and take Jamison with me!

Who wouldn’t want a classic Cartier tank watch?  It makes any outfit chic; you can pass it down to your daughter and her daughter and… well, you get the hint.  The watch will require a $2,550 investment but it’s stainless steel, water-resistant, and made in Switzerland – sounds like a lifetime classic!

You can get it at Saks or Cartier.
