More pony hair leopard print boots run amuck at Saks:

How desperately I need some pony hair leopard boots for fall.  But for way less than $980.  Don’t worry, Brian.  One day I’ll bring you home with me. 😉  You can take him – I mean them – home from Saks.

Girl Crush Wednesday: Diahann Caroll

Ever since I was a little girl, I always thought that Diahann Caroll was the most beautiful and glamorous woman in the world – except my Ganny.  I loved the furs and sequins and big hair and bright lipstick she rocked as Dominique Deveraux on “Dynasty.”  She’s had quite a career and has come a LONG way since she was born in NYC.

Sure, she’s been married a few times (four, but who’s counting) but I mean, look at her.  She is a fox.  Even at 75!  And she won the first Tony of any Black actress in 1962 and received an Oscar nomination in 1974 for “Claudine.”  Beautiful and Accomplished – exactly what I want to be when I grow up.

J. Mendel – SICK!  That is really all I can say about the floaty, blushy collection accented with fur-fection…

L.A.M.B. – loving the bright mash-up of mixed prints and interesting differences in proportion – so playful!  (BTW, Gwen – I NEED that white pantsuit for spring.  Hook me up!)

L’Wren Scott – per usual, the slim, womanly silhouettes are the feature

Marchesa – intricate details in fluffy chiffon in blushy, nude, white and black

Naeem Khan – his streak continues with bright colors, floaty prints and killer nude evening gowns

Rachel Roy – she managed to give us a little bit of everything – color, nude, flowy, fitted, prints… and I’m in love!

Blow Your Paycheck Friday: Sergio Rossi Stamped Lizard Pump

I am SO dying for these sute Sergio Rossi platform pumps.  I especially dig the “hint” of peep toe and perfectly skinny little heel.  While the heel is 5.5 inches, the platform is 1.5 inches.  I am dying for the camel, but the black would be hot too:

You can get them at Saks for a mere $695, which I think is a steal for THIS much style.

Girl Crush Wednesday: Chelsea Handler

In tribute to her hosting gig at Sunday night’s MTV VMAs and her book titled, Are You There Vodka, It’s Me, Chelsea I’ve decided it’s as good a time as ever to profile Chelsea Handler.

You may recall my love of all girls that behave badly and drink too much (ah, how I miss being one of them) so Chelsea should truly be no surprise.  After all, she is known to exercise like a madman to “afford”  her love of Belvedere vodka (for which she is a spokeswoman) and tell lots of dirty jokes before hardcore ribbing of C-list celebrities that visit her on “Chelsea Lately.”  Make us proud!  You are repping the Dirty Jerz, so you’ve got lots of competition these days (yes, I DO love “Jerseylicious” – and it’s back with new episodes!)

You know I can’t resist a good, tasteful nude shot.  I’ve enjoyed them since my childhood days peering at my dad’s Playboy magazines. 😉

Yes, I Know I’m a Bit Obsessed…

So, as you may already know, I LOVE embellished headbands.  And when Forever 21 was running a little free shipping offer on Labor Day, I ordered a few new ones:

Feather Accent Headband in black Was: $10.80 Now: $4.99

Beautiful Feminine Head Piece in grey for $4.80

Netter Flower Headband in black costs $5.80

And all three were less than $18 total including tax.  Yes, I am a little obsessed and totally in love with these accessories.  I am hoping to wear them soon although they are all clearly a bit much for work, so I’ll have to work them in on the weekend.

The Tale of IKEA Light Bulbs and the Declining Importance of Customer Service
09/13/2010, 10:55 PM

I headed to IKEA today to buy replacement halogen bulbs for my kitchen light fixture.  I had written down the name of the light bulbs (savvy me, I saved the box from four years ago) before heading to IKEA.  But here’s the kicker – they discontinued the Osram halogen bulb.  Now, I guess I could have taken one of the bulbs with me, but would I assume they would discontinue my bulb?

After several attempts (and many minutes of waiting) to find a specialist to assist me, a fellow Michelle showed up to help.  She provided me, of course, no help.  I had to pick between two similar looking bulbs, so I picked the bulb I thought was the right one.  But it wasn’t!

So, I received NO customer service (at least very inferior customer service) and I left the store with the wrong bulb?  I should seriously consider boycotting IKEA but I love that place… It’s a critical decision to make.

But at the least – IKEA (and many, many, many other retailers like my local Kroger grocery store) needs to step up their customer service.  I know part of why the prices are so low is that IKEA is a very self-service type of establishment, but damn!  Come on, people.  Don’t make me boycott you!  Cuz you should know – I WILL do it… if I have to… but I really don’t want to… but I will… if you make me.

And on another note, I am quite taken with the below light fixture for my dressing room.  What do you think?  Does it look too cheap?  I mean, it’s cheap at only $49.99 – but I don’t want one of my luxurious dressing room’s serious pieces to look cheap.

What I’m Rocking: “Fiesta Paryt”

No, I’m not illiterate.  My friends Ben & Jory had a big reception for all their friends that could not make it to their July D.C. wedding.  They had such cute fiesta-themed decor, but there was a really funny mistake on a banner that read “Fiesta Paryt” – and yes, they bought it that way LOL.  I decided to be colorful for this festive occasion:

Coral print dress:  Thrifted, probably Goodwill – surely less than $6

Lizard printed white belt:  my favorite vintage belt

Bronze suede wooden platform sandals with hot pink toes:  Nine West Outlet in Sedonda, AZ for like $20 3 years ago

Pink zircon ring:  $20 at jewelry market in Kapali Carsi (the Grand Bazaar) in Istanbul

Multi-colored Hello Kitty headband: scored this from the Target $1 bin last fall (paired with a hot pink one too)

Check out some shots of the tasty food we (well, mostly everyone else) enjoyed at the party:

There were chicken and steak tacos, rice & beans, quesadillas, queso dip – all kinds of Mexican deliciousness courtesy of Rita and Christian!  And La Suprema provided the beautiful tres leches cake – Jory’s fave.  I enjoyed skinny girl margaritas (highly recommend at about 130 calories per 6 oz) and a bit of shiraz while resisting the lemonheads scattered about the table.  A good time was had by all!

Spring 2011 New York Fashion Shows – Part I

BCBG Max Azria – love the breezy nudes, whites with the pops of color

Christian Siriano – there are many different kinds of girls.  I am a Christian Siriano kind of girl.  I love the prints and especially the crazy gowns.  I am SO on his program, “hot tranny mess” and all.

Jason Wu – Is there a party sometime soon?  Red carpet event?  If so, can Jason Wu love me enough to dress me in one of his floaty, candy colored numbers?  Please… (puppy dogs eyes)

Nicole Miller – the sheer and cutouts in black and nude make for very interesting gear

Peter Som – layering flirty separates in brights, prints and whites while teetering in super high platforms makes you itch for spring

Wishing I was not SO focused on paying off debt this year and next year that I could justify buying any of these bags on Gilt Groupe:

Venetia – $749

Python Robert Jennifer – $1189

Leather Robert Leslie – $749

Damn, I HATE being a grown up.  For real. 😦
